Everyday I try to study something new, mostly related to rendering stuff. This time however is a little different.
I used Maya as a modeling tool a lot back in 2010 and 2011 when I was studying in ETC. I’ve been wanting to learn Maya API for a while, now there’s time, why not? :P
So I created a simple raycast node, following a CG Society course. It was really satisfying when I moved the ray direction and observed the little sphere moving along the surface.
This plug-in is written in C++. The ray’s origin is set to (0, 0, 0), the moving locator represents the ray’s direction, sphere indicates the hit point.
